] Yes, she had to visit Jane, remember, Jane is visiting people she doesn't even know very well. Naturally they seem to be of good repute, but they are strangers after all and Elizabeth would provide comfort for her sister being a familiar face among mere acquaintances. So I think there are several reasons for staying with Jane, social and familial.

But Netherfield could be as bad. JA points out that the Bingley sisters made great effusions of pity, largely empty. How miserable. Lizzy, knowing their true character -- knowing somebody's for once! -- needed to give her sister some sincere comfort.
(BTW, Catherine, you should snip off the portion of the quoted messages that you don't refer to in your own post. Maybe you meant to and forgot; I do that.)
