Until her brother took the lease on Netherfield she probably thought she had the inside track for Darcys affections.
This is, of course, supposing she believed that he wouldn't bow to pressure from Lady Catherine and marry her daughter.
Her constant references (after the party at Lucas Lodge) to "fine eyes" appears IMHO to be attempts to decern if he has stopped admiring the person.
Too bad for Caroline that she cannot see that all she is doing by her negative references is putting herself in the position of being put down by Darcy!
