In response to Miss Bingley gets on my nerves!!, written by Constanza on November 20, 1997 at 20:23:11
This is the first time that I noticed what a large part Caroline plays in the chapters at Netherfield. She seems to be at the center of them. Many of the observations the author makes are about her, she has most of the dialogue, and dominates the chapters. Elizabeth has her fights with Darcy, but the rest seems centered on Caroline. Austen rarely has scenes in which her heroine is not present, but Caroline has several. At the same time we are given none of the scenes with Elizabeth and Jane alone together, and through much of these chapters Elizabeth is a background character.
