] So if the did, she could go home to her mother and father who needed her more. Her life wasn't any better being away from them because she felt she didn't deserve it to be any better. Why stay were you are treated badly. She would have the respect that she deserved from her sibilings and her mother because she is a good person,but a afraid of her own shadow.

Fanny lived at the beginning of the 19th century, not the end of the 20th. She was totally dependent upon the Bertrams. She had no money. I doubt if she would even known how to book passage on whatever they called the coach that may have taken her back to Portsmouth if she wanted to.
And, her parents did not want her, either.


] ] Like Kathleen said, Fanny only suspected that Maria was marrying for the wrong reasons and prefered Henry--she did not know that there would be problems.

I agree. In a sense, she was only doing what is still prudent today; minding her own business.
