Sexual vs. social reasons for marriage

Charlotte's reason for marrying Mr. Collins is a simply social one -ie a marriage of the brains- as compared with Lydia's pure sexual attraction to Wickham -ie a marriage of the bodies. Each girl's relationship with her corresponding husband is just the opposite of the other's. Lydia's marriage turns out for bad and Charlotte's for good.
Do you think Jane Austen planned it on purpose?
