In response to Looking for P&P, written by Caroline on November 16, 1997 at 10:13:42

] Listen, My husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas. What I really want is a copy of P&P. Not a cheap paperback one, that will fall to bits in two readings, but a properly bound, maybe leather covered, one that falls open at a certain page and stays there, will survive if I fall asleep over it in bed,and , ideally, has some commentary by some learned person at the back. Does such a thing exist, any more?

Caroline I take it you are familiar with the Chapman edition? Oxofrd!
If you are, maybe I can excite the interest of someone else?
It is not leather, at least not the version I got, but, it is illustrated, early nineteenth-century plates, has blue cover, nice paper and has got notes on Jane's text, index of characters(from Darcy to Sally, who is no doubt Mrs Forster's maid), notes on illustrations, chronology, a chapter on modes of address, feigned places... Can you tell I love it!!
I have borrowed the library copy several times and this summer I bought my own!!(£10.99)
ISBN 0-19-254702-x
