] If you've completed the novel and know all Byatt will allow you to know it is time to say what you think. We'll begin with Christabel since she's the character who loses the most in the story. Was Christabel's going with Ash a mistake? Would it have been better for her to have foreborn and said no? Why run to Britanny and tip Ash off to her condition? What did Christabel owe Blanche? Was the loss of her independence to high a price to pay for the protection of her child?
