I actually think there is a little more more meat & slightly better prose in the later work, but according to the web site, the 6 volumes currently out aren't the end of it, and you may prefer to wait a few years for the last 2 to make it. Of course, the darn thing is so long, if you start now you might be in the perfect position by the time they do (-:

Still, it's hard to know what to follow up the chronicles with--I just finished them the first weekend in Nov. I've got Quiet flows the Don & Mason & Dixon on tap, but it sort of feels like Faulkner time of year. (Austen time of year, OTOH, is late spring to early summer (-: )
