] Interesting idea - Byatt is obviously interested in Hallam as he has an important part in "Angels" as Emily Tennyson's dead fiance, but Hallam died before he really achieved anything so Ash is surely more like Tennyson himself?
I am obviously going to have to read 'Angels and insects'! Yes, more like Tennyson, but I would think if she did use this idea, it may have been precisely because he did not live beyond early twenties....lots of scope for imaginative development, and to be like Tennson, without being Tennyson.
Do ask her, Kate!
