] Oddly, despite the eroticism, she is also the one character who most fears being possessed. She runs through lovers like the proverbial hot knife through butter, even her only child lives with his father. She feathers her bed rather than her nest. She doesn't want to keep anything. So, can her generosity truly be called thus? Isn't true genrosity the giving of something one values?

This is a lovely analysis, Cassia! I find her so funny. And I like her, somewhat to my surprise. Does she fear being possessed, or is it simply meaningless to her? I agree about the generosity, but I am puzzled by it too. Does she give herself? If she gives herself, but does so to anyone and everone, does that become meaningless too?
