In response to Ash and possesion of Christabel, written by Kate on November 06, 1997 at 21:40:57

] This is absolutely the last post for today, I promise!

] This to me seems incredibly patronizing. It's like Ash is saying that without him, Christabel would not know her own freedom, would be like a caged creature, that he would be the one to release her from bondage. Instead, he has taken her from a situation of freedom, and placing her in circumstances which will ensure her continued dependence. She didn't need to be taught she was not his possession - she was quite capable of seeing that for herself. The idea of him GRANTING her freedom seems extraordinarily self-centered, even for Ash.

I've always interpreted that differently. In my mind, he maens to show her that she can be with him and still be free. That the possession they share needn't be enslavement.
