] I agree. He seems unaware of the danger, both to the lovers' psyches and, more concretely, to their well-ordered lives. Christabel, on the other hand, is clear-eyed throughout. Her words on the train and in Yorkshire show her to be well aware of the consequences. Perhaps he really has less to lose (certainly his honor will not be lost and HE will not get pregnant) and can't see the precariousness of C's situation.
Christabel only thinks she understands what the consequences will be. She comes to know they are greater than she comprehended.
