As for your comments on marriage, I agree, but I'm very married, so don't look here :) I was startled when JA referred to the possibility ot Henry marrying Maria, but it is taken quite for granted, as the chapter goes on, that Rushworth will have no difficulty procuring a divorce - he had the money, and the social position, needed to get that special Act of Parliament.
However your " 2 or 3 years of fun, 2 or 3 more of indifference, then a no-fault divorce" is just about what a modern-day Mary Crawford would be good for - no?
