In Blanche's diary she speaks of a prowler, who seems to be related to the letter writer. Yet there is nothing in the correspondence that suggests that Ash goes anywhere near Bethany until he is invited, except for the day he goes riding in Richmond Park. How do we explain the prowler? Is it just Blanche's metaphor for a man looking in upon their closeted lives, or did he really hang around?
