I hope Karen is right, and the book grows on you. I'm not sure that it will though, since you are pretty far along and sound rather put off by the whole thing. Thanks for trying.
PS: I must defend Byatt, one of the really great writers working today, against a comparison with TBOMC. THAT was a piece of sentimental swill.
PPS: Karen, I thought the book was twaddle, but the film was really quite moving.
