I am so sick of actors/actresses that think that they can simply read the screenplay of a based-on-novel movie, and get the full characterization. That's like reading a version of history written by one man that is based solely on his opinion. I agree that screenplays are wonderful in bringing the novel into visual, but you have to read the original story and get a feel for the character you are playing first-hand. That's what seperates good actor/actresses from bad ones. I think this topic has been brought to my head most recently by the horrible job Ciaran Hinds did acting like Rochester. Do not get me wrong, I loved him in Persuation, but he admitted to never having read JE and it shows!!
By the way....Where is Uma from? I always thought she was American. I guess she could do the accent afterall.
