But you must now look back and think that, perhaps, God has forgiven me because my great great great (?) grandaughter takes a scholarly--albeit warped--interest in her ancestors' work.

Beatrice! You caught an error I noticed the first time I read the book. When Maud looks at Maia's photo, she says "She's my great-great-great grandmother" Wrong! Too many greats. This is even pointed out earlier when the history of the Baileys is discussed. I noticed it because I'm not far from Maud's age at the time of the story and MY grandfather was born in 1900.
