What about Rachael Grifiths for Christabel? She is the young(ish?) Australian actress who played the fiercely and intensely intellegent woman in the wheelchair in Muriel's wedding. I've also seen her in Children of the Revolution, a very different role, but again she has that instant attraction we would want for Christabel.
Jeremy Irons for Ash? He is a bit mournful, but think of him in 'Danny, the champion of the world', and I could see him as a possibility. Did someone suggest Firth? I could see that more easily.
Did any of you see the recent film of Wind in the Willows, made by a large swag of the Monty Python crew? (Its good!) The actor who plays Mole might be a good Roland. Whether this is really so, or whether its just the association of moles because Val calls him Mole, I don't know! BTW, Do moles fit in the snake/bird/worm thing, in only partially digesting food, or having some strange digestive device?? Or maybe he is the exception?
