Bravo Kali!!! I whole agree with you. From the letters we know that after the reviews came out for P&P JA began to find the novel too light and sparkling. She also wanted the oppurtuntiy to talk about the church, an intitutuion very close to her heart. The Chrurch during her lifetime was plauged with may problems including absentee rectors who lived in town an payed a curate to carry out the duties of the parish, the holding of mutilple livings, the loss of anything resembling a chrchly demeanor amoung clegymen.
She used Manfield Park as her platform to speak about these things as well as including her courtship comedy.
