In response to Themes in Possession, written by Hil on October 20, 1997 at 22:14:50

] Several others have commented how much they love this book, and I too find myself grabbed and sucked in again too. Its a great feeling to be really excited and on edge about a book.

] One of the exciting things is its richness of imagery. Already people are talking about themes of knights, possession in its various forms, and obssession. I thought I would just put down a few of the themes I have noticed so far:
] trees;
] colour, particularly green, gold and white;
] glass and transparency;
] hair, streaming strands of hair;
] ice, cold, unattainability;
] reflection;
] ashes;
] 'My solitude is my treasure';
] incarceration...'the bright safe box';
] all that amazing detail of surface and texture that seems a mark of feminine writing;
] letter writing;
] the American/English debate!;
] poetry;
] feminism;
] academia....
