Several others have commented how much they love this book, and I too find myself grabbed and sucked in again too. Its a great feeling to be really excited and on edge about a book.
One of the exciting things is its richness of imagery. Already people are talking about themes of knights, possession in its various forms, and obssession. I thought I would just put down a few of the themes I have noticed so far:
trees;
colour, particularly green, gold and white;
glass and transparency;
hair, streaming strands of hair;
ice, cold, unattainability;
reflection;
ashes;
'My solitude is my treasure';
incarceration...'the bright safe box';
all that amazing detail of surface and texture that seems a mark of feminine writing;
letter writing;
the American/English debate!;
poetry;
feminism;
academia....
