In response to The Gothic as individuation story, written by Stolzi on October 19, 1997 at 23:06:04

] Besides the hero, there's the house. A big old house, always hiding secrets and dangers.

] It's common parlance that the home and surroundings are important to females.

] In the Gothic, does that big house symbolize the =self= with its hidden secrets to be revealed, its locked rooms to be opened and known?

I too loved gothics when I was an adolescent but I never managed to love the heros. I would read the ending going yeah, yeah, and wonder why she thought she'd be happy with such an idiot. But if I look at the stories as part of the individuation process them I can actually read the endings in earnest.
Thanks.
