It was not my intent to put Rebecca in the same class of Literature as Jane Eyre. IMHO one is a good yarn and one is great literature. But it did make me wonder if Daphne DeMaurier (sp?) saw herself as writing a latter day Jane Eyre -- one for the twentieth century -- where the ethics are murkier and the lines between right and wrong are less clear.
Am I correct in saying that they are both have characteristics of "Gothic" novels?
