] But I cannot help but wonder why those who feel that JA is preachy, cold, stilted, emotionless, etc, spend so much time at a site devoted to Austen! I never expected JA to be dissed in her own home. Is this to be endured? It shall not be! ;-)

Come on, you`re limiting this place unjustly. It is indeed dedicated to Austen, but, fortunately, thereīs a lot more to it than that. I mean, I love Austen (though Iīm not one to say that sheīs the best), but I am thankful that there are other discussions going on. Ohterwise, I`d have quit Pemberley a long time ago.
Besides that, discussion is healthy and I believe every writer should be criticized. That includes Jane Austen. Why should she be an exception?
Thereīs not only good to be said about her, thereīs also bad. And I think the bad should be talked about, even if people donīt agree with each other (and have fights--I hope that doesn`t happen, though).
For my part, I think Austen and Bronte couldn`t be more different, so I donīt see the point of comparing one to the detriment of the other. But it sure is refreshing to read a book like Jane Eyre after so much Austen. Isnīt variety the spice of life? ;-)
