How funny; I think it perfectly natural that Edmund fall
for Mary. As you say, she is pretty and vivacious. She has
charm. Haven't you ever been attracted to people you know
you'd never get serious about just because they're
charming? I am all the time, but it never goes further than
light attraction. Edmund's great fault is that he wants to
hide his disapproval from himself. He allows his attraction
to distract him from his principles, and then begins to
rationalize his breaking of his own principles. (That's
pretty natural behavior, too, don't you think?)

] I know she is characterized as pretty and vivacious, and

Fanny is far from exciting, but I just don't understand

how proper Edmund could fall for someone like Mary.
