Jane's Style

I am asking a question about Jane' classification(was she a romantic writer or not). I read S&S, P&P, and Northanger Abbey about two years ago. I had decided to read S&S after I saw the awesome movie(Emma Thompson's version). At the time, I was 13 years old and the language structure was complex and sometimes difficult to understand. I own both A&E'S P&P, and S&S and still watch them. But even after reading the novels, something evaded me. And after reading biographys and such, off of the Internet, I have found many opinions. (Sorry for my babbling)Here's the Question. Would you consider Jane Austen to be a Romantic or the opposite? Many have claimed her writings as romances or soap operas, but others seemed to think she, not laughed at, but almost criticized Romanticism. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Shannon
