as I said above, I am in no way comparing myself to Charlotte Bronte, or Jane Austen, or any other great writer.
But I have written a mystery series wherein the protagonist is a childless widow who lives in a trailer house and works as a waitress.
I, personally, have been happily married for a very long time, have grown children and small grandchildren, haven't lived in a trailer since I was 18 and have never waited tables in my life.
But I observe and I ask questions and I imagine and I make things up. And the combination of these ingredients must have reached the magic proportion, because I can't tell you how often people assume that I am living Tory Bauer's life.
