Alexia - I had never read Jane Eyre, though I was pretty familiar with the plot. (Maybe I should also mention that I do NOT consider myself to be a big fan of the Bronte sisters' work!) I thought that if I read/saw Wide Sargasso Sea, then maybe that would help get me over some of my Jane Eyre negativity, so that I could share in the group read.
(You may not have noticed my name on any of the group read posts - there's a reason for that. ;-) I'm only just now on Chapter 17.)
Actually, this story did give me some insights as to where Mr. Rochester could have been coming from. Also - and this has nothing to do with the movie's rating - I MUCH preferred the book to the movie.
