Mary makes several snide or evern derogatory remarks about the clergy and the church, unaware that Edmund is going to take orders.
This just about does it for me. This gal has no respect for who edmund really is and I think he falls for her the same reason a lot of guys fall for girls: it's called hormones.
THese parts of the book are especially hard to read because I happen to like Fanny. Yeah, she's a bit of a wimp on the outrside, but on the inside she has character. Edmund, who starts out with promise, has now forfetied his principles (acting in the play) because he's obsessed with Mary. And the worst of it is how he tries to justify it!
