] That's why I thought of the Poetry Forum. You can skim through the poetry, then come back to it afterwards. I heard Byatt on a radio interview saying that was what she thought most people would do anyhow and it was fine with her. That being so, feel no guilt and join us.

I totally agree with Cassia. The poetry is intimidating and I'm no poetry buff myself. While there are plot points and little hints that make more sense after the fact, I've always felt that you could skip it and later appreciate it for what it could represent--just a little tour de force for the author!!
