I read JE this summer for the first time (unfortunately, I don't have the time to reread for the group read) and was struck with the opening paragraph to this chapter. The imagery is beautiful and even a little uplifting. I go back to this chapter every so often and reread it, because it is my favorite scene in the entire novel. Thanks for pointing it out.
