Well, I know Rochester is miles away from Scott's Bois-Guilbert, but I do detect some similarities-such as a jerk like attitude.

Wonder if anyone is interested in discussing Male characters in literature and attitudes(comparisons with other protagonists too!).

Darcy too, displays a very suave sense of condescension towards Elizabeth, thus the shock treatment at the proposal..
