I believe foreshadow to be one of the loveliest of all writing mechanisms. Only of course after you know what is going to happen in the end, makes it even more sweet!!! (otherwise it can be torment to the tragedy-hating reader) This is my third time reading Jane Eyre, and as some of you might already know, I am taking it extremely slow. I just love how Mr. Rochester says after Jane has slipped out of the first party in which she is ridiculed beyond belief; "Good night, my-" (or something to that effect)

Oh I love that, for that is when I know of his growing love for her, and it's almost Darcyism how he holds back. That and one of my favorite scenes "The Gyspy" in which he proves to her, that he means to include her in all that his assembly does.....Why?....It surely does not make him more popular in the group; in fact it hinders him. He does it because he loves her. He gazes into her eyes for the second time because that is the only time that he can without suspicion.
