Rochester not so bad?

Seems there`s a lot of Rochester bashing going on. I realize that he`s not the most likeable character in the world, but he also seems extremely human in many ways. For me, itīs quite easy to understand his motivations and forgive him (I think his obsession (itīs hard to call it love sometimes) with Jane explains it all), but I do understand other peopleīs dislike. He is rather selfish and cruel. All in the name of love?...Perhaps.
