nectar and ambrosia (AKA seed cake)

I don't think I'd really registered before just how very *c-c-c-cold* they were at Lowood. This time I noticed every chilblain, raw wind, frozen pitcher and those big girls hogging the fire. (Miss Temple mustn't have known about the latter surely or she would have put a stop to it) But it makes it such a wonderful moment when Jane and Helen go to Miss Temple's room, sit in front of the fire and get stuck into the seed cake. aaaaah! (It reminded me of the bit in "The Hiding Place" where Corrie Ten Boom finally gets out of Ravensbruck and has a hot bath. aaaaah!) And the mental comfort, too, of Jane being asked to defend herself against Mr B's accusations, and being believed. Nice moment.
