Thanks for answering all those questions Caroline? I've wondered about that for a long time, but especially while reading CH. 7 of MP.
I think you're right about being another way to deny women's freedom. It does look very cumbersome, and if it is more dangerous, women might not be able to ride as quickly that way either.
