Helen, there's no evidence that Jane Austen ever read "Mansfield Park" -- only "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma" (as far as I know), and those only after she had already written "Jane Eyre".
I think there just might be some, you know... ;-)
(Sorry, I know what you mean) - but chronology is unimportant to my argument - I imagine Charlotte had the passions of Jane Eyre long after she had written the novel.
