One other footnote about Helen's death... I glossed over this on my first read, but it really struck me this time, at the end of chapter 9:

Her grave is in Brocklebridge churchyard: for fifteen years after her death it was only covered by a grassy mound; but now a grey marble tablet marks the spot, inscribed with her name, and the word "Resurgam."

for fifteen years by which time Jane (who is presumably responsible for the gravestone) would be some five yearsinto her marriage with Rochester.

I like that Jane never forgot Helen, and returned to Lowood to pay tribute to her friend.

(BTW- my footnote also states that "Resurgam" means "I will rise again" for those of us not up on our Latin.)
