I have not read Jane Eyre before, only reading the first ten chapters yesterday. Yet, I did feel something welling up in my eyes when I read about Helen's death. I agree that she gave a lot to Jane, both of ideas and of herself; she was a remarkable girl. I didn't know that Helen was based on Charlotte's sister Maria - thanks so much for telling me!

I do agree with you about Jane's comment on not going to hell - I couldn't help but laugh upon reading it!
