I guess I could have waited for someone else to start things, but it just so happens that I have Chapter One of Jane Eyre due to read for tomorrow in school. I was just wondering.....Who is Miss Mope? Why did John call Jane Eyre, Joan? and this beginning sounds very familiar to me.....like a mix between Moll Flanders, and Cinderella. I emphasized that she was also considered as "almost part of the family" when really she was no more than a house maid, forced to pledge alleigence (spelling?) to her masters. Maybe it's because I am a devote Crawfordite (always seeing things as better than they really are), but was this the same station that Fanny was put in when she first came to Mansfield Park? I know that Maria and Julia were mean to her, but I didn't think that she was considered a maid although I most certainly could be wrong...
