What a mess. I agree with you Marsha in wanting to scream!!

Henry's love was not over ego, because if it had been; JA would have said so....Instead this is what was written (PROOF!!)
Volume II Chapter X
"Mr. Crawford is in love with Fanny"
Volumne II Chapter XII
"You know with what the idle designs I began-but this is the end of them."
Volumne II Chapter XII
"I am fairly caught."
and the proof goes on and on as to how he cares not what Maria and Julia think because fanny is the only one that can steal his heart and keep it. He will not fall out of love, because he confided in his sister that it could not be possible with such a heavenly creature.

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING (I always wanted to say that....)

HENRY LOVES FANNY, and THE AFFAIR WAS ONLY A RUMOR!!

EDMUND IS SPINELESS!!!
