] But as I said, it was only for cuckolded men. A woman could not get a divorce, and a man could only get one if his wife could be proven to have cheated on him. It was also a very expensive proposition and required an act of parliment to get one. There were literally only a handful of them granted in this era.



Although this was the most common reason for divorce, it was not the only grounds. Desertion and certified insantity could contritute grounds as well.
