In response to Jane Eyre (don't read this if you like the Brontes), written by Ann on September 17, 1997 at 22:50:49

] ] I am so glad that there's some else willing to step forward with a dislike of the Brontes! When I read Jane Eyre for the first time when I was about 14, I loved it, it was the same when I read Wuthering Heights a year later. I had to re- read both for a couse and was suprised find that both of them left a sour taste in my mouth.

] I agree completely. Austen creates such realistic characters, but the Bronte's characters are silly and stupid. I don't like the anything-for-love premise of the their work, and I thought Jane Eyre was simply poorly written.

Which bodes badly for our group read!!Whilst agree that there are some difficulties with Jane Eyre, I wouldn't call Lucy Snowe an "anything for love" character.
I also don't like "Wuthering Heights" because I find the characters unbelievable. "Agnes Grey" is realistic, though. Some critics say Anne Bronte would have been the best Author of the three, if she had lived longer and written more.
