]I have something of a similar problem with BP's works. At the moment I think Jane and Prudence is my favorite. I love the character of Jane -- such a thoroughly decent woman, and so concerned about her own ineffectiveness -- it's both touching and comic. And her husband Nicholas -- with the animal shaped soaps! And carefully choosing which animal to use first -- and then Canon Pritchard and his wife not getting why adults might want to have animal soaps. And Fabian putting a picture of himself on his wife's grave. And Miss Morrow, in this incarnation, escaping her grim life with Miss Doggett. It's filled with touches I just love.

I would have to agree that Jane and Prudence is one of my favorites as well. I LOVED the character of Jane as well! We have a casting game going on the Barbara Pym page and that was my book I chose to cast! I think her preoccupation with her ineffectiveness is also endearing and (as I have not finished all of her books yet) I am hoping to run across her mention in another book perhaps! My other favorite is The Sweet Dove Died. I love the tragic sense to the novel. It had the usual Pym elements, but the characters had a complexity to them that I adored and the ending still disturbs me. Drop me another post if you would like to discuss her books further or e-mail me if you like! And thanks for suggesting we use her books for a group read! I am trying to work on others as well!
