] My Dear Erroneous Bertramite :),
] You do not comprehend Crawfordite philosephy. The affair never took place. Henry was set up. He has reformed himself, not unlike Darcy.
] Henry is really not plain. JA meant to go back and change this, but she did not have time.
So, in your eyes, Henry has little to do with the character that Jane Austen created--you rewrite him as handsome and reformed, then prefer your version of him to Austen's. In other words, your delusions have nothing to do with Jane Austen!
I happen to prefer Jane Austen to Julia. Henry's inability to reform is at the heart of the point of the novel--reject that and you have Barbara Cartland.
