Despite what some people now think, 1st cousin marriage isn't really that incestuous -- it's been allowed in England for 400 years (and before that too, if you could get a dispensation from the Pope), and even right now it's legal in about half the states of the U.S.

I'm with you in all this, HC. And particular thanks for clarifying the 1st cousins bit. It has never struck me as the least bit odd or repulsive as it seems to have struck some of the C-ites. Jane Eyre was considering marrying her cousin, St John Rivers, and it wasn't because he was her cousin that she decided against him.
