I agree that there is so much more to JA novels than romance. I think that's why I continue to like P&P1 at least as much as P&P2, despite its technical flaws. P&P2 emphasizes the romantic (in the current sense of the term) element much more than P&P1. But let me hasten to add that I do like the romantic element, too.
] For me there is so much more in JA's novels than the romance, that I consider the romantic aspects to be secondary (or even tertiary !) to the main theme(s) of the books. Perhaps this difference in reader responses explains some of the differences in reader satisfaction levels with the endings of MP and/or S&S.
