] Or it might suffer from the same problem as P&P1, which we have never been able to pin down a precice date for. P&P1's dates range from 1979-85. Perhaps the Beeb put out all of the Austen tapes at the same time in '85, even though they were made earlier.

I think this is a likely explanation. When I bought Emma1 it had 1980-something on it and it took me quite a long time to work out that it had been made earlier. Finally Emma's delightful blue crimpeline gown convinced me that it had to be ten years older at least and I found out from this board that it was 1972.
