Suppose that Mr Knightley doesn't propose and Emma accept (I know, I know, then there would be no novel, but humor me!). I cannot imagine any other man being willing to move into to Hartfield w/ Mr Woodhouse. And, where would Emma meet any other man?
So, suppose Emma does end up an old maid? How would she turn out? She wouldn't be poor, but would she be bored out of her mind? As for having a niece with her, well Isabella might have other thoughts on that.
Speculations, anyone?
