] Some people want realism - perfect copies in visual media, just like a photo or a carefully-painted portrait (oftentimes these lack feeling - how many times have we seen a perfect portrait with a dead expression?). Others are touched by fresher, more inventive means of expression - records of shape, light, and color which capture the mood and general form but not the crisp details of the real thing.

] very interesting post indeed, kali. thank you. just as long as you allow that others may think this "inventiveness" and "mood" etc. is better captured by emma3 than emma2(but both pics are just dandy with me).

You can think whatever you want, but most Emma3 fans (I remember Susan and Kathleen reaching this conclusion months ago) have claimed to prefer it because it is more "literary" (and this is my own term) - closer to the book and time period in most literal departments. I will grant you all a preference for mood, but I don't think "inventive" fits Emma3 in the same way it suits Emma2, which is a completely different - and further-out - take than Emma1 or 3. "Creatively orthodox" is more on the mark.
